The Altai Institute and the Protected Areas Administration are renovating the former Protected Areas office, that was abandoned in 2011, into a classroom to support the local school and student conservation club, and to be used as a small museum for visitors to the area. Work began in 2017 when the roof was replaced. In 2018 windows and doors were replaced and the exterior walls were refinished. Half of the interior has been renovated and this area will be used beginning in 2019 by the local school for nature classes taught by the Protected Area staff. and as meeting place for the high school Eco Club.  The wall in the classroom was enhanced by a local artist with a mural of local landscapes and wildlife. The next part of the renovation will include the museum, highlighting wildlife, regional history, and Kazakh culture of the area.

In 2019 the Altai Institute began working to help local schools find necessary resources. Our first project was to supply beds to an outlying primary school. Since herders are dispersed across the landscape instead of in communities, when children attend school they usually stay in dormitories since travel between home and school on a daily basis is prohibitive because of distance. The outlying primary school we worked with had more students than beds and thus students were sleeping 2 to a bed. Through crowd sourcing, money was raised to build another 20 beds so each student had their own bed in which to sleep.
